With just three weekends remaining in their 2024-25 OUA schedule, the RMC Paladins made their way to Toronto Friday night to take on the York Lions. In their first of two matches in as many days, the Paladins came up short against the Lions 3-0 (13-25, 17-25, 18-25).
RMC found themselves in trouble early on as the match got underway. Surrendering 10 of the first 12 points, the Paladins were having to battle back from a 10-2 deficit. Although they pushed, RMC was unable to make up the lost ground, dropping the opening set 25-13.
It was a better start for RMC to the second set, as they went back and forth with the Lions through the first handful of points. With York going on a five-point run to open a 10-5 lead, RMC quickly responded with a four-point run of their own, narrowing the gap to one. Continuing to exchange blows, the Paladins remained within two points at 17-15. From there though, York would start to pull away. Winning five of the next six points, the Lions widened the lead before winning the set 25-17.
Unfortunately for RMC, the third set started similarly to the first. With York taking control early, the Lions established a 9-3 advantage. Despite a couple of runs, and numerous attempts to battle back, the Paladins were unable to fully solve the Lions in the third set, as York went on to take the set 25-18.
Ashley Raymond would go on to lead the Paladins in kills with seven.
Elisa Markentin had the team-high in digs with eight, while
Jayda Phillipson led RMC in assists with 18.
The Paladins will now look to bounce back against York when they get a second chance at the Lions on February 1. First serve from Toronto is set for 1200hrs.

Le CMR s'est retrouvé en difficulté tôt dans le match, accordant 10 des 12 premiers points. Bien qu'elles aient poussé le jeu, les joueuses du CMR n'ont pas été en mesure de combler l'écart et se sont inclinées 25-13.
Les Paladins ont connu un meilleur début de deuxième manche, échangeant les points avec les Lions sur les premiers échanges. York a ensuite inscrit cinq points de suite pour prendre les devants 10-5. Les visiteuses ont répliqué par quatre points consécutifs réduisant l'écart à seul point. Poursuivant ces échanges, les Paladins sont restées à deux points d'écart alors que la marque était de 17-15. C'est à partir de là que York s'est échappé pour de bon, remportant cinq des six points suivants, en route vers une victoire de 25-17.
Malheureusement pour le CMR la troisième manche a davantage ressemblé à la première qu'à la deuxième alors que les Lions se sont procuré une avance de 9-3. Malgré des séquences de points et de nombreuses tentatives de revenir dans ce match, les Paladins n'ont pas trouvé de solutions contre York, s'inclinant 25-18.
Ashley Raymond a mené les Paladins avec sept attaques marquantes, tandis qu'
Elisa Markentin a dominé sa catégorie avec huit récupérations, tandis que
Jayda Phillipson a été la meilleure du CMR avec 18 passes.
Les Paladins chercheront maintenant à rebondir contre York quand ils obtiendront une deuxième occasion contre les Lions, le samedi 1er février à compter de 12 h à Toronto.
