The 2025-26 OUA season officially began for the RMC Paladins Friday night in Peterborough. Opening their year on the road against the Trent Excalibur, the Paladins were unable to get into the win column, falling 3-0 (20-25, 22-25, 19-25).
Early on, the Paladins had a hard time generating back-to-back points. Trent meanwhile, was able to take advantage jumping out to a 9-4 lead. The Paladins would try to fight back on multiple times, and on separate occasions would get the lead down four but never any less. In the end, Trent would secure the first set 25-20.
The second set started with both teams exchanging points, before Trent made a small run to go up 10-5. The Paladins would quickly fight back though, getting within one point before tying the set 14-14. Later tied 16-16, the Excalibur slowly began to pull away. Forcing RMC to take a timeout after going up 22-18, Trent was able to put the second set away 25-22.
Determined to get back into the match, the Paladins battled throughout the third set. Although either trailing or tied through the early stages of the set, RMC began to push near the double-digits mark. Going on a small run of their own, the Paladins took a 16-12 lead. However, it was at that point that momentum seemed to switch. Winning seven of the next eight points, Trent forced RMC into a timeout having taken a 19-17 lead. Despite their efforts, RMC was unable to solve Trent the rest of the way, falling 25-19.
Named to the OUA All-Rookie team last year, second-year outside hitter,
Tommy Roussel was back at it for RMC leading the team in kills with 13. Taking over the setting duties,
Christian Patterson had a team-high 23 assists, while also leading the team in digs with six.
The Paladins will look to bounce back quickly as they return to the Trent Athletics Centre tomorrow (Oct. 25) for a second meeting with the Excalibur.
La saison 2025-2026 des SUO a officiellement démarré pour les Paladins du CMR, vendredi soir à Peterborough. Lançant leur campagne sur le terrain de l'Excalibur de Trent, les Paladins n'ont cependant pas entrepris la saison du bon pied, s'inclinant 3-0 (20-25, 22-25, 19-25).

Les Paladins ont tenté de répliquer à de nombreuses occasions, parvenant deux fois à réduire l'écart à quatre points, mais c'est le plus près qu'ils se soient approchés de leurs adversaires, s'inclinant 25-20.
Les deux équipes se sont échangé les points en début de deuxième manche, avant que Trent ne se projette vers l'avant par la marque de 10-5. Les Paladins ont été en mesure de se rattraper cette fois, créant l'égalité 14-14. Plus tard à égalité 16-16, l'Excalibur s'est lentement, mais sûrement échappé, forçant les visiteurs à prendre un temps d'arrêt alors que Trent menait 22-18. Les hôtes ont remporté la deuxième manche 25-22.
Ne voulant pas baisser les bras, les Paladins ont rivalité tout au long de la troisième manche. Bien qu'il ait tiré de l'arrière ou, au mieux, créé l'égalité en début d'engagement, le CMR a collé quelques points pour prendre les devants 16-12. C'est à ce moment que le vent a malheureusement tourné. Trent a marqué sept des huit points suivants, forçant les visiteurs à prendre un temps d'arrêt alors que l'Excalibur menait 19-17. Malgré leurs derniers efforts, les Paladins n'ont pas été en mesure de revenir dans la manche, s'inclinant 25-19.

Les Paladins chercheront à rebondir rapidement alors qu'ils ont à nouveau rendez-vous demain (samedi 25 octobre) avec l'Excalibur au Trent Athletics Centre de Peterborough.
