Hitting the court for their second match of the season, the RMC Paladins took on the Trent Excalibur for the second time in as many days Saturday in Peterborough. Despite their efforts, the Paladins were unable to find the win column, suffering a 3-0 (16-25, 13-25, 21-25) defeat.
Although the Paladins were able to keep the opening set close initially, Trent would slowly start to pull away through the middle stages. Leading RMC 9-7, the Excalibur used multiple two to one or three to one runs to build up a 20-11 lead. RMC attempted to get themselves back in the set, getting within seven points, however, Trent would go on to win the set 25-16.
Similarly, in the second set, the score was very close approaching the midway point. Even though Trent built up a couple of small leads, the Paladins kept fighting back and had managed to pull within two points at 13-11. Unfortunately, that was when the Excalibur made their move. Trent would go on to win 12 of the next 14 points to take a two set lead.
Continuing to battle, looking to force a fourth set, the Paladins kept their compete level high. Despite trailing early in the set, RMC was able not only get back in the set through the middle stages, but even took a 17-16 lead. The Paladins did not quite have enough left in the tank though, as the Excalibur pushed back going up 23-19, before finishing off the set 25-21.
Leading the team in kills for a second straight night,
Tommy Roussel recorded 11. Meanwhile, second-year setter,
Christian Patterson led the team in both assists with 17 and digs with six.
Next up for the Paladins will be the team's home opener on Halloween night when they host the McMaster Marauders at 1930.

Malgré leurs efforts, les Paladins n'ont pas été en mesure d'avoir le dessus, s'inclinant en trois manches (16-25, 13-25 et 21-25).
Même si les Paladins ont été en mesure de garder le match serré au départ, Trent a lentement et sûrement créé un écart en milieu de manche. Menant le CMR 9-7, le CMR a profité de plusieurs séquences de deux points sur trois ou de trois points sur quatre pour prendre les devants 20-11. Le CMR a tenté de revenir au pointage, réduisant l'écart à sept points, mais Trent a remporté le premier engagement 25-16.
Dans la même légine, le pointage était très serré à mi-chemin en deuxième manche. Bien que Trent ait profité de petites avances, les Paladins sont constamment revenus au pointage, s'approchant à deux points (13-11). Malheureusement, l'Excalibur est passé à la vitesse supérieure à ce moment, remportant 12 des 14 échanges suivants pour remporter la manche.
Poursuivant la bataille et tentant de provoquer une quatrième manche, les Paladins n'ont pas baissé les bras. Malgré un retard en début de manche, le CMR a été en mesure de revenir au pointage et a même pris les devants 17-16. Les Paladins n'avaient toutefois plus de carburant dans le carburateur et l'Excalibur a renversé la vapeur pour prendre les devants 23-19, en route vers un gain de 25-21.
