After spending the previous weekend in Guelph, the RMC Paladins once again headed west Friday night as they made the trip to Waterloo. Playing in the first of two matches in as many days against the Warriors, the Paladins were defeated 3-0 (11-25, 18-25, 17-25).
The Paladins got off to a slow start on Carl Tozke Court. With the match tied 5-5 in the opening set, Waterloo quickly went on a six point run to take an 11-5 lead. Soon after, a five point run for the Warriors put them up 17-7. Unable to make up the difference, RMC dropped the set 25-11.
Trying to put the first set behind them, the Paladins kept pace early on with Waterloo in the second. However, after pulling within one point of the Warriors at 11-10, RMC found themselves in some trouble. Making multiple small runs, Waterloo began to separate from the Paladins. Going up 17-10 and later 21-13, the Warriors were ultimately able to finish off the second set 25-18.
Attempting to get back into the match despite trailing by two sets, the Paladins saw their task get tougher early on in the third. A 10-1 Waterloo run gave the home team a 13-4 edge. The Warriors would wind up stretching their lead to as many as 11 at 19-8. Not giving in, the Paladins continued to battle. Using a 7-2 run, RMC pulled within six at 21-15, but the deficit proved to large to overcome, with Waterloo taking the set 25-17.
Tommy Roussel led RMC in kill on Friday with seven.
Christian Patterson went on to lead the team in both assists and digs with 13 and seven, respectively.
The Paladins and Warriors will return to the Carl Tozke Court in Waterloo tomorrow (Nov. 22) at 1430.
Après avoir passé le weekend dernier à Guelph, les Paladins du CMR ont pris la direction de Waterloo vendredi soir. Disputant le premier de deux matchs en autant de journées contre les Warriors, les Paladins ont été vaincus en trois manches (11-25, 18-25 et 17-25).
Les Paladins ont démarré cette rencontre sur le Carl Tozke Court au ralenti. À égalité 5-5 en première manche, Waterloo a remporté les six échanges qui ont suivi pour prendre les devants 11-5. Une autre séquence de cinq points a plus tard porté la marque à 17-7 en faveur des Warriors. Incapable de revenir au pointage, le CMR s'est incliné 25-11.
Tentant de mettre cette première manche dans le rétroviseur, les Paladins ont maintenu le rythme avec Waterloo en deuxième. Cependant, après avoir réduit l'écart à un point (11-10), le CMR a creusé son propre trou. Au terme d'une série de petites séquences, Waterloo a commencé à s'échapper des Paladins. Menant 17-10, puis 21-13, les Warriors ont conclu cette deuxième manche avec un gain de 25-18.
Les Paladins n'ont pas baissé les bras au début de la troisième manche, mais la tâche s'est avérée plutôt ardue. Une séquence de 10 points sur 11 échanges a procuré une avance de 13-4 aux locaux. Les Warriors ont étiré l'écart à 11 points (19-8), malgré tous les efforts des Paladins. Ces derniers ont ensuite remporté sept points sur neuf échanges pour réduire l'écart à six points. Le déficit était toutefois trop important pour compléter une remontée. Les Warriors l'ont emporté 25-17.
Tommy Roussel a mené le CMR vendredi avec sept attaques marquantes, tout comme
Christian Patterson pour les passes (13) et les récupérations (7).
Les Paladins et les Warriors ont à nouveau rendez-vous sur les planches du Carl Tozke Court de Waterloo, samedi soir à 14 h 30.
