Back in action Saturday afternoon to battle the Waterloo Warriors for the second time in as many days, the Paladins were looking to bounce back from Friday's defeat. In the end though, following a 62-point first set loss, the Paladins were unable to recover in a 3-0 (30-32, 19-25, 13-25) defeat.
The opening set of the match would wind up being the longest set of the season so far for RMC. After fighting back from a 10-6 deficit to take a 12-11 lead, the Paladins would remain ahead for majority of the set. However having earned a pair of set points at 24-22, RMC would see Waterloo score the next two points to extend the set. From there, the two sides would exchange points over and over, with each team having three separate set points after the 24-24 mark. Finally, at 31-30, Waterloo would convert on their fourth set point and win the set 32-30.
Needing to recover from a heartbreaking opening set, the Paladins got back to work in the second. Unfortunately, for RMC, it was the home side that was able to jump out to an early lead going up 6-2. Remaining composed, the Paladins were able to get dig out of the early hole, trimming the Waterloo lead to just one at 15-14. However, five straight points for the Warriors quickly put RMC back in a hole that proved to big to overcome, as Waterloo would win the set 25-19.
Down two sets to none, and their backs against the wall, RMC did what they could to try and battle through the third, but were unable to generate much. For the second straight set the Paladins fell behind 6-2, before seeing the deficit grow to seven points, and later nine. RMC would fight the rest of the way, Waterloo proved too much, as the Warriors finished off the match 25-13.
With 12 kills and 10 kills, respectively,
Tommy Roussel and
Carter Liu both reached the double-digit mark.
Christian Patterson led the team in assists with 24, while
Robert Chua had the team-high in digs with seven.
The Paladins will now return home to host the York Lions on November 28 and 29 to round out the 2025 portion of their schedule.
De retour en action samedi après-midi face aux Warriors de Waterloo pour un deuxième match en autant de jours, les Paladins cherchaient à rebondir après leur défaite de vendredi. Cependant, après une défaite en première manche où 62 points ont été marqués, les Paladins n'ont pas été en mesure de se relever et se sont inclinés en trois manches (30-32, 19-25 et 13-25).
La première manche aura été la plus longue de la saison du le CMR. Se relevant d'un retard de quatre points (6-10) pour prendre les devants 12-11, les Paladins sont restés devant pour la majeure partie de la manche. Cependant, ayant obtenu une paire de points de manche à 24-22, le CMR a vu Waterloo marquer les deux prochains échanges pour forcer la prolongation. De là, les deux équipes se sont échangé les points coup pour coup avec trois points de manche de chaque côté après l'égalisation à 24-24. Finalement avec une avance de 31-20, les Warriors ont converti leur quatrième point de manche pour gagner 32-30.
Après cette défaite crève-cœur, les Paladins se sont remis à la tâche en deuxième manche. Malheureusement pour les visiteurs, les Warriors ont pris les devants 6-2 en début d'engagement. Gardant leur calme, les Paladins sont parvenus à réduire l'écart à un seul point (14-15). La séquence de cinq points de Waterloo a sorti le CMR de la course, en route vers un gain de 25-10.
Le dos au mur avec un retard de deux manches à zéro, le CMR a fait ce qu'il a pu pour rivaliser en troisième manche, sans trop parvenir à générer l'attaque nécessaire. Pour une deuxième manche de suite, les Warriors ont pris les devants 6-2, avant de voir cet écart s'étirer à sept points, puis à neuf. Le CMR a lutté jusqu'au dernier coup de sifflet, mais Waterloo a tenu bon pour gagner 25-13.
Avec 12 et 10 attaques marquantes respectivement,
Tommy Roussel et
Carter Liu ont chacun amassé plus de 10 points.
Christian Patterson (24) a mené au chapitre des passes tandis que
Robert Chua a amassé sept récupérations, un sommet chez les siens.
Les Paladins rentrent à Kingston en préparation pour leurs prochains matchs, les 28 et 29 novembre contre les Lions de York afin de conclure la portion 2025 de leur calendrier régulier.
