Having won a set in both their last two matches, the RMC Paladins were looking to improve on that Friday night in Toronto when they battled the TMU Bold. Instead though, the trend continued for RMC, with the Paladins losing a third straight match in four sets, falling 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 18-25, 16-25).
Although there was not much to separate the two teams in the opening set, TMU was able to open up a small three-point lead early on. Despite it not being a very large lead, it seemed for the duration of the set, the Paladins were chasing those couple of points. On multiple occasions, RMC would pull with a point or two, but were not able to get even. TMU would ultimately continue to hold that lead throughout and taking the opening set 25-21.
Looking to even up the sets at one a piece, the Paladins got back to work in the second. Following a back and forth beginning, the Paladins began to make a move. Tied 5-5, RMC used kills from
Tommy Roussel,
Carter Liu and
Andrew Marchi to establish a 10-6 lead. Continuing to attack, the Paladins would open the gap to as many as six, at 19-13. With Roussel and Liu continuing to pile up the kills,
Cameron Moar would eventually finish off the set for RMC with a kill of his own, as the Paladins evened the match with a 25-18 win.
Opening the third set, RMC dropped six of the first eight points. Despite making a few runs of their own, the Paladins were never able to fully recover from the early deficit. Trailing 17-10, RMC put together a strong push, winning six of seven points to pull back within two. However, the Bold would counter with a run of their own to propel them to a 25-18 third set win.
RMC would open the fourth set with brief leads of 1-0 and 3-2, the Paladin were unable to keep up with TMU from that point on. The Bold quickly went up 10-5, and kept building their lead from there. Trying to get back into the match late, RMC pulled within four at 20-16, but the Bold would go on to win the next five points and finish off the match.
Liu would finish the match with team-high 18 kills.
Christian Patterson led RMC with 40 assists, while Roussel had a team-high 11 digs.
The Paladins will now turn their attention to their final game of the season. They'll be back in Toronto on February 7, to once again battle TMU.

Cette avance était bien mince, et elle a duré tout au long de cette manche. Les Paladins étaient toujours en retard et sur de multiples occasions, les visiteurs se sont approchés à deux et à un point, mais sans créer l'égalité. TMU a ainsi maintenu le cap pour gagner la première manche 25-21.
Cherchant à créer l'égalité en deuxième manche les Paladins se sont rapidement remis au boulot. Avec une série d'échanges de points pour lancer l'engagement, les Paladins se sont légèrement échappés. À égalité 5-5, le CMR a profité des attaques marquantes de
Tommy Roussel,
Carter Liu et
Andrew Marchi pour se donner les devants 10-6. Gardant le cap, les Paladins ont accru leur avance à six points (19-13). Alors que Roussel et Liu ont continué de contribuer à l'attaque,
Cameron Moar a mis un point d'exclamation sur la manche avec une attaque marquante pour permettre aux Paladins de gagner 25-18.
En début de troisième manche, le CMR a perdu six des huit premiers points. Malgré quelques séquences heureuses, les Paladins n'ont jamais vraiment su se relever de ce déficit de début d'engagement. En retard 17-10, le CMR a remporté six points sur sept pour s'approcher à deux points du Bold. Cependant, les hôtes ont répliqué avec leur propre séquence en route vers un gain de 25-18.
Le CMR a démarré la quatrième manche avec des avances de 1-0 et de 3-2, mais TMU a appuyé sur l'accélérateur et s'est ensuite enfui. Rapidement, le Bold s'est donné les devants 10-5 et a continué de bâtir sur son avance à partir de ce moment. Tentant de réagir en fin d'engagement, le CMR s'est approché à quatre points (16-20), mais le Bold a remporté les cinq points suivants pour mettre fin à la rencontre.
Liu a conclu ce match avec 18 attaques marquantes et
Christian Patterson a été le meilleur du CMR avec 40 passes, puis Roussel a amassé 11 récupérations.
Les Paladins se concentreront maintenant sur leur dernier match de la saison, le samedi 7 février à Toronto contre ce même Bold de TMU.
